As Halloween fast approaches there seems to be more conversation in the real estate industry concerning haunted houses. No, I’m not referring to the old abandoned warehouses you pay money to go into and get scared by ordinary people in costumes. I’m referring to homes purchased and occupied by families, like you and me, and then begin to hear and see strange things. One such family was the Lutz family who moved into 112 Ocean Ave and only spent 28 days in the home before leaving from what they described as a demonic haunting. This home, more commonly known at the Amityville Horror Home, soon became one of the most famous haunted houses in the world thanks to a book and movie deal. The Lutz’s knew about the grizzly details of the murders that occurred in the home in 1974 but were attracted by the significantly reduced home price. What if they didn’t know? Are there laws for informing future home owners of deaths that occurred in the home? In Aurora, Colorado the answer is no. If the house was used as a meth house then it has to be disclosed but deaths or possible hauntings do not. If it’s something that concerns you, you can simply ask and the sellers or you can do a search of the address on Google to see if anything pops up. Also there is a site called www.diedinhouse.com that allows you to search the address of your future home however it does cost a small fee for that search.
As a paranormal enthusiast and “ghost hunter” myself, I would love to hear your stories of any haunted homes you may have encountered. Post your stories or send me an email at tomjohnson@yourcastle.org.
